Connecting people and retired thoroughbred racehorses

These Horses Can Change Lives

Thoroughbred horse racing has a long history worldwide. From the moment these horses are born, they receive excellent care. The Thoroughbred industry, along with Down the Stretch Ranch, is working to extend that care beyond their racing careers—utilizing these horses to bring solace and peace to military veterans, children and other community members.

A Visit at the Ranch

Through the use of equine therapy, these incredible animals will bring comfort and companionship to veterans of war, families of trauma, or children in need. These horses can effectively change the lives of people who suffer from a diverse range of disadvantages and disabilities. We also work with other adults and children outside of the veteran community in need of connection and therapy.

A Continued Purpose for the Horses

At Down the Stretch Ranch, we believe that retirement isn’t the end of the road for our thoroughbred racehorses—it’s the start of a new purpose. These highly trained athletes still have so much to give, and at our ranch, they find a second career helping struggling veterans and children. Through the freedom to roam, social connection, and the powerful horse-human bond, they provide healing, confidence, and companionship. At Down the Stretch Ranch, both horses and people find the purpose and support they need to thrive.

“I felt at peace and was full of joy for the first time in a long time!”

— Jerald Reichel, Iraq Combat Soldier
