Jerry and Janet Hollendorfer
Co-Founders
Jerry and Janet Hollendorfer have been influential figures in the world of Thoroughbred horse racing, with Jerry being one of the most accomplished trainers in the sport. Based primarily in California, Jerry Hollendorfer built a stellar reputation as a Hall of Fame trainer, known for his sharp eye for talent and exceptional conditioning skills.
Jerry's training career took off in the 1970s, and he became a dominant force in West Coast racing, particularly at Golden Gate Fields and Bay Meadows. Over the years, he has trained multiple Grade 1 winners, including champions like Blind Luck, Shared Belief, and Songbird. His ability to develop top-class racehorses has earned him widespread respect, amassing thousands of wins and ranking among the all-time leading trainers in victories.
Janet Hollendorfer played a significant role in the couple’s racing operations, contributing to stable management and supporting Jerry’s training efforts. Together, they built a successful racing operation, known for producing competitive horses at all levels.
Beyond their achievements on the racetrack, Jerry and Janet co-founded Down the Stretch Ranch in 2015, a retired racehorse facility in Eastern Washington. The ranch has provided care for hundreds of retired racehorses, ensuring they have a second career or a peaceful retirement. Additionally, the facility serves as a sanctuary for veterans and children facing various disadvantages and disabilities, offering them comfort, solace, and therapeutic experiences through their interactions with the horses.
While Jerry's name is synonymous with success in Thoroughbred racing, his and Janet’s unwavering support of Down the Stretch Ranch may be their biggest victory. Their dedication to providing retired racehorses with a safe home and offering healing experiences for those in need has left a lasting impact beyond the racetrack. Through their work, the Hollendorfers have shown that the true power of horse racing extends far beyond the finish line.
